Essentially, registrants from around Chicago, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana make up the primary lot of drivers, ranging from in skill from semi-professional drifters to novice drivers.
There are an intermediate and advanced course set up for drivers. In addition to the separation in class, cars that are deemed less stable in tech inspections, but still passable, are typically limited to the intermediate course (an example being the white 240SX ‘truck’)
On the advanced course, drivers compete for points in the Drift Association/ClubFR Midwest Cup throughout the day and have open runs inbetween announced runs (allowing drivers to give ride-alongs and the like)
It was actually during one of these ride-alongs that a marriage proposal happened. The staff of the event helped plan things out in advance for Brian Vrchoticky to do a ride along with his girlfriend, and then stop, get out of the car to "show her something wrong" and then propose.
The driver of this slate grey Nissan 240SX is Mike Pollard aka "Black Magic"
This red FC3S RX-7 is piloted by Ilia Smolov.
From what I heard, this 'slightly' modified Hyundai Genesis coupe caught fire due to a ruptured fuel line. With only 800 miles on the clock, no one expected this Genesis to have any problems, let alone catch fire!
This cream colored AE86 coupe belongs to Phillip Stubkjaer.
This MA70 Supra belongs to Leigh Roto.

I'll have to write a fuller report next time....but I'm definitely excited to be working with you all now!
ReplyDeletepics are too cool Brendan!
ReplyDeleteI resent the fact that you left out MN and included MI & IN. I challenge you to a duel.
ReplyDeleteMy bad....I left out some MN love in the email, even though some of my favorite cars there were from MN.
