UNLEASHED // SHELBY'S 750HP 2010 GT500 SUPER SNAKE

While trackside at Pacific Raceways for the first ever Mustang Hot Laps, I had the pleasure of witnessing the power and presence of Shelby’s 700hp GT500 Super Snake. There is just something about supercharged American V8’s. An abundance of power, loads of low end torque, their unruly nature. I love it. So when I came across a bit of info on the 2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake, I felt obligated to post it.

With 750hp and 710lb/ft of torque, an increase of more than 200hp over the standard GT500, Shelby’s GT500 Super Snake takes the already potent GT500 package and adds enough horsepower and handling to have GT3 owners second guessing their purchase... [read more]

With the addition of 200hp, the 750hp GT500 Super Snake has more then enough bite. The power comes courtesy of an upgraded Ford Racing Supercharger kit and a JBA manifold, amongst other things.

The weight gain is negligible, with the 2010 GT500 tipping the scales at 3,917 pounds and the Super Snake weighing in at 3,944 pounds.

The Ford Racing Supercharger sits atop the 5.4L V8 and helps the GT500 Super Snake churn out 3/4 of a thousand horsepower.

On the inside, the 2010 GT500 Super Snake is much like the 2009 incarnation. Featuring a official Shelby plaque mounted to the dash, the only additional changes over the base GT500 are a set of gauges mounted to the A-pillar which measure boost, fuel pressure and oil pressure.

On the outside, the GT500 Super Snake sees the addition of a massive hood scoop, somewhat reminiscent of the hood scoop which adorned the 1968 GT500KR. Other bits include a set of 20" wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero rubber, a set of massive six-piston brakes, a carbon fiber front splitter and air ducting in place of the quarter windows.

For control, the GT500 Super Snake features a Ford Racing suspension system with dynamic adjustable dampers, lowered springs, new stabilizer bars and a front strut tower brace.

A car that can certainly hold its own with the best of them, the 2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake is, as far as I am concerned, one of the most impressive cars soming out of Detroit, er, Las Vegas...

  3. Where is the roll bar like the older ones always had??? I owned a blue 68 GT500KR convertible and a red 69 GT500 convertible. I fliped the 69 end over end 8 times and was saved by the roll bar. It's a real lose not to have them now!! David F
