Marcello Lotti (WTCC Series Manager) commented "It is with the greatest satisfaction that we welcome Volvo’s participation to the 2011 WTCC. "To have such an important brand backing WTCC in these difficult times for motorsport is a big boost for all of us, and I am confident that Volvo’s move will have a positive impact on those car manufacturers that have showed interest in joining the championship."

Volvo's managing director Christian Dahl was happy with the Swedish manufacturer’s link up with the Polestar Team which will campaign the C30 saying "We are very happy and proud for this vote of confidence."

"It will be a challenge for us but we have been prepared for this for several years. Our organisation is in place and we have already started the preparation."

NEWS // Q&A WITH 2010 F2 CHAMPION

NEWS // Q&A WITH 2010 F2 CHAMPIONAfter capturing the 2010 FIA Formula 2 title at Valencia, Britain's Dean Stoneman reflects on the most successful season of his career so far in an interview with FormulaTwo. The 20 year old who wrapped up the F2 title at the Spanish circuit 10 days ago also looks ahead to his upcoming Williams F1 test... [read more]

You've had a few days now to reflect upon Valencia; how does it feel to be 2010 FIA Formula Two Champion?

It feels fantastic! After choosing to take part in Formula Two its been a great season - I didn't expect to win it in my first year, so to walk away with the championship is a huge achievement. I'm already getting recognised more, and yesterday Eddie Irvine phoned me following a radio interview with the BBC to offer congratulations and advice. Now the season is finished there's time to reflect, but there's also a lot to think about in the future, and hopefully winning F2 helps me get one step closer to my dream of being in Formula One.

What will you do to prepare for your test with Williams later this year?

I'm obviously preparing physically, but I always go to the gym and keep in shape. I'm trying to lose weight and gain muscle, which is hard but can help make a difference at that level. I also went with Darren Turner to use a simulator of the circuit, which helps give you a basic idea of where the corners go, what gear you should be in etc.

How do you prepare mentally for a test like this?

Other than the simulator work to get a rough idea of the circuit, it's just a case of getting ready really. It's really exciting but at the same time I'm not getting my hopes up about how fast I can be before the day, and I'm just going to turn up and do what I do best: get in the car and drive as quickly as I can. With these things you have to just go out there and enjoy it, but I'll also be studying how the team operates to hopefully learn and move forward myself.

How does this season compare to the rest of your career?

F2 has been great really - I think it's a good stepping stone for young drivers to go in and learn. In many ways it's the way forward, not just because of the low budget and the quality and power of the car, but also because it's a good basis for young drivers looking to take the next step. The fact all the cars are similar also helped me, as it puts the emphasis on driver ability.

Was there a weekend when it all came together, or was it a gradual process?

I think it was a gradual process really, and I was quick in pretty much every round, but taking a double win at Oschersleben was definitely the most enjoyable moment!

Does winning the championship validate your decision to race in F2 rather than other single seater categories?

Definitely. I'm really glad I chose Formula Two: it's a good championship, the car is great - especially at high speeds - and the level of competition was high. Obviously you get the prize F1 drive at the end, and I've also had great publicity which will hopefully help me move into the next step.

What are your hopes for the future now?

It all depends upon budget really, but the aim is GP2. Hopefully winning F2 helps me, as I have a real sense of momentum behind me and now it's all just about taking advantage of that.

Dane Nikolaj Moller Madsen completed the podium... [read more]

With the decision by the FIA CIK to run this years championship for KF2 rather than Super KF, the 47th running of FIA CIK World Championship saw a massive 125 strong entry take to the track at the 1700m long Spanish circuit north of Zaragoza.

Third at the end of the first lap of the final Dutchman De Vries subsequently passed the Dane Moller Madsen (Energy-TM), then slowly but surely narrowed the gap between himself and the leader Jordan Chamberlain.

NEWS // NYCK DE VRIES TAKES FIA CIK WORLD KARTING TITLEOnto the last lap and De Vries pulled off an outstanding overtaking manoeuvre to take the chequered flag and with it the most important victory of his career so far.

"What an incredible feeling ! ", said De Vries, " I was closing only very slowly on Jordan, Then at the start of the last lap, I said to myself that this braking manoeuvre would probably be my very last chance to be world champion. I decided to make my move some way back… and that was how it went!"

Britain’s Jordan Chamberlain was obviously very disenchanted after heading the field from pole for most of the final commenting "Inevitably I am very disappointed… In a straight line I was falling back, but I said to myself that Nyck was too far away to launch an attack. And then, all of a sudden, it happened ! I found myself in the dust, just off the track, and then all I could do was defend my second place again Nikolaj. But well down to Nyck for his race!"

TRIVIA // IT'S GETTING LAUDA

TRIVIA // IT'S GETTING LAUDAWe're pleased to announce that CTD reader, Pablo, answered yesterday's trivia question correctly! That said, we'd like to thank everyone that submitted an answer and apologize to our friends on Facebook for not posting the question on our page :( So, what was the correct answer you ask? Follow the link to find out... [read more]

The photo we featured was taken in 1978 at Brands Hatch. The car is a Brabham-Alfa BT46B and was being driven by Niki Lauda. Following Lauda's test session he had this to say: "The new Brabham was unpleasant to drive. It understeered massively, all the more so when you took your foot off. The fan was powered by the engine, with the result that the suction effect fell off when the revs dropped. After a couple of test laps at Brands I started to adjust my driving style. Whenever the car failed to respond going into a corner, you had to put your foot down rather than ease off. This way, the car would be sucked down tighter against the track and would corner at incredible speeds."

The car was designed by Gordon Murray, who in 1978 was working for Bernie Ecclestone’s Brabham team. The 'fan' was a solution developed by Murray to compete with Colin Chapman’s Lotus 79, which had considerably more downforce thanks to ‘ground effect’ aerodynamics. Click here for additional information on Murray's Brabham-Alfa BT46B.

Thanks again for participating. Stay tuned for more trivia questions!

DOMESTIC INDULGENCE // DAYTONA DOWN THE CORKSCREW

DOMESTIC INDULGENCE // DAYTONA DOWN THE CORKSCREWThere are few cars as important as the Shelby Daytona Coupe. Based loosely on the AC Cobra's chassis and drive-train, the Daytona Coupe was built specifically to take on Ferrari in the GT class. Pete Brock designed the Daytona's bodywork, while Bob Negstad designed the car's suspension. In 1964, Dave MacDonald and Bob Holbert drove a Daytona Coupe to a GT class win at the 12 Hours of Sebring, while Dan Gurney and Bob Bondurant took the GT class win at Le Mans that same year // [comment]
