By comparison, most cars entered at Le Mans maintain rather low revs, as the 24 hour race is a compressed version of an entire seasons worth of racing, and can be quite hard on equipment. The 787B on the otherhand, had no inhibitions and would roll well beyond 9000rpm as it screamed, literally, down the Mulsane straight.
