NEWS // BRITISH GRAND PRIX BACK @ SILVERSTONE

The future of the British Grand Prix was secured today with the announcement that the race will take place at Silverstone next year after the Northamptonshire venue signed a 17 year deal with Bernie Eccelstone.

With a previous deal between Donnington Park and Eccelstone having collapsed due to the required funds needed for substantial redevelopment not materialising, BRDC president Damon Hill re-negotiated the long term contract guaranteeing that the British GP would not disappear from the calendar... A delighted Hill said "It is not easy to enter into a contract of this magnitude and you have to take on a lot of responsibility, but the BRDC wanted this relationship to continue. Everyone was well aware that the British GP is not just a sporting event, but it is dynamo of the industry in this country. Losing it would have been damaging and perhaps there would have been no coming back."

With Silverstone also beginning a multi year deal with MotoGP next year plans are already in place for a £40 million circuit upgrade including layout changes (above) and a new pits and paddock complex which will be constructed on the exit of "Club" corner.
