BREAKING NEWS // MERCEDES BUYS BRAWN GP

In a move predicted here at ColdTrackDays only last week, Mercedes just announced they have purchased a 75.1% share of Brawn GP.

The German manufacturer quite obviously will now have the majority share in this season's championship winning team but will retain Ross Brawn as team principal for an undisclosed period. The former Honda Team, who has its base in Brackley UK, will be re-named Mercedes Grand Prix.

With German Nico Rosberg already confirmed at Brawn for 2010 it remains to be seen as to whether Jenson Button will be alongside him for next season. Jenson, who has been in contact with Mclaren during the last week, may well now leave to join up with Lewis Hamilton forming an all British driver line-up at Woking in 2010... [read more]

Rumour has it that Mercedes will be looking if possible for an all German driver squad at Brawn with Nick Heidfeld's name being in the frame should Jenson move on.

Mercedes will fund their acquisition rumored to be over 200 million Euro, by selling their 40% stake in the McLaren Formula One team to the McLaren Group, this will be completed in 2011.

Despite offloading their stake in Mclaren, the German Manafacturer will remain McLaren's engine supplier from 2010 to 2015.

The agreement will mean that Mercedes will be competing in Formula 1 as a full factory team for the first time since 1955.

  1. Wow! That's big news! Nick Heidfeld as the second driver though? Nothing against Nick, but he's not a top tier driver anymore, and Mercedes should be striving to produce a top tier team.

  2. Agreed! Heidfeld would be a backward step, surely they should be striving to keep Button and pay him the going rate! But maybe they see Rosberg as the "Real Deal" and are looking just for an experianced face for a No2??

  3. Button should stay!! Being Hamilton's team-mate will be a no win situation in my opinion!!

  4. Mclaren are in trobule, yes they keep their engines but surely this will hurt them. Just goes to show exactly what Mercedes thought of spygate and the Aus GP scandal!!
