NEWS // FORMULA TREE - A WORLD FIRST

Following F1's disastrous attempt at including a kinetic energy recovery system into the sport this year we here at CTD were wondering whether a more structured and well thought out approach was out there at bringing motorsport in line with current "Green" thinking and potentially re-attracting some of the lost sponsorship that has moved away due to "Enviromental Considerations"

Well here we go, pictured above is the "The World’s First F3 Racing Car with an environmental conscience"

It has been developed at the Warwick Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (WIMRC), part of the University of Warwick in the UK. The car itself has been built using environmentally sustainable components... [read more]

According to WMG "The project truly is a World First as the team have examined all the components of the vehicle and attempted to introduce a green and sustainable element into each aspect of the car. Components made from plants form the mainstay of the car’s make up, including a race spec steering wheel derived from carrots and other root vegetables, a flax fibre and soybean oil foam racing seat, a woven flax fibre bib, plant oil based lubricants and a bio diesel engine configured to run on fuel derived from waste chocolate and vegetable oil. It also incorporates a radiator coated in a ground-breaking emission destroying catalyst".

Project Manager, James Meredith a researcher in WMG at the University of Warwick, said “It’s been very exciting working on the project and important for our team to develop a working example of a truly ‘Green’ motor racing car.  The WorldFirst project expels the myth that performance needs to be compromised when developing the sustainable motor vehicles of the future”

The car is set to make its public debut this weekend at Brands Hatch (Insert Link: http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/index.asp ) competing in the BRSCC Formula 3 Championship race that is supporting the Formula Ford Festival.

Young British driver Aaron Steele will be at the wheel for the weekends two races.
