RACE REPORT // LE MANS SERIES FINALE @ SILVERSTONE

Oreca Matmut AIM scored their first ever Le Mans Series victory (in their own chassis, at least) at the Silverstone 1000kms. Nicolas Lappiere and Olivier Panis won despite being outdragged to the first corner from pole position. They also overcame a strong challenge first from Pescarolo, who were delayed by gearbox trouble and Speedy Racing, and were robbed at the death by the need to change a louvre panel on the front left. In LMP2, the dominant Quiffel Zytek suffered electrical gremlins and retired early, allowing Speedy Racing's Lola to take victory for Leuenberger, Pompidou and Kane.

GT1 victory belonged to Gigawave Aston Martin, Peter Kox and Ryan Sharp enjoying an early battle with Larbre's Laurent Groppi.  Groppi's team mates unfortunately did not have his pace.

GT2 was a bittersweet affair for JMW Motorsport, who needed a win to take the series, but also needed 77 Felbermayr Porsche to not score.  The 77 car had serious issues, but still managed a 7th place in class to secure the title as JMW's Bruni and Bell won the race.

A third place finish was all that Aston Martin needed to clinch the LMP1 title. This was their first attempt at the Le Mans Series, one that proved rather successful.
