SUPER ONE KARTING SERIES // ROUND 4 @ CLAY PIGEON RACEWAY

ColdTrackDay's Neil Tozer payed a visit to the UK Super One TKM Karting Series at Clay Pigeon Raceway for the fourth round of the championship. Running as a stand alone series but still being controlled by the main Super One Series organisers, the TKM race classes provide a cheaper alternative to the MSA KF1/KF3 championships.

The whole premise of this series is that although chassis choice is free from a holmologation list, each TKM class, of which there are two, have a standard one make TKM motor either two or four stroke. The playing field is further levelled by strict controls on tuning and modifications. The TKM karting philosophy is certainly popular and with its foundations dating back to 1989 this year sees it celebrate it's 20th anniversary... [read more]

With races for both Juniors and Seniors, Round 4 saw healthy grids for the Two Stroke classes and a smaller entry for the Four Strokes.

Saturday saw free practice before the day ended with a number of qualification heats to ease the timetable for the Sunday.

The Raceway itself has seen a number of substantial changes over the last couple of months with the race control tower having been moved to the new startline position and the luxury of a new undercover scrutineering bay having been constructed. The new startline will cut down on the number of shunts around the ultra fast kink into "Billys Blind" on the opening lap and also means that with the field tightly bunched as they cross the line the approach speed into Billy's will be alot lower on lap one. A change for the better without losing one of the best sections of track in UK Karting.

TKM Extreme - Race Report:

The two stroke 115cc Extreme class was as usual the most competitive and saw both Ryan Cole and Charlie Bruce-White take heat wins a piece with Will Waterman victorious in the other.

So for the Final local driver Bruce-White was on pole alongside Ash Crossey with Cole down on the fourth row after a DNF in Saturdays 2nd heat.

As the 30 strong field approached the lights on the rolling lap it was probably inevitable that a first corner tangle might split the field and so it did with a multi kart incident (Below) eliminating 3 drivers on the spot and delaying several others.

With Bruce-White at the head of the field it was left to the rest to to try and reel him in. Cole had made great progress from his eighth place grid spot carving his way into 2nd by mid distance. He towed up to Bruce-Whites bumper but then immediately came under pressure from behind which resulted with himself being delayed and losing 2nd place to Randall Lynn. So the experienced Bruce White (below) re-established his lead but the race however was not to to reach its full conclusion as a nasty looking shunt at the top end of the circuit brought out the red flags.

TKM Extreme S1 Round 4 2009 Clay Pigeon Final Results:

Junior TKM Two Stroke Results:

With the seniors returning to the paddock the Junior Two Stroke field took to the circuit and provided a thrilling race with a multitude of lead changes and some very mature drives. Coming out on top at the flag was a young man to look out for in the future Will Van Es from Sawtry who has moved up to the TKM Super One series this year

Top girl on the day was Lisa Playfair (below) who finished in a strong 9th place at the line.
