VETTEL MAKES IT TWO // 2009 BRITISH GRAND PRIX RESULTS

Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel ran from green to checkered this afternoon, collecting his second victory of the season at the famed Silverstone Circuit. Having qualified on pole, Vettel looked strong heading into Sunday's race, having run a full half second ahead of Brawn GP's Rubens Barricehllo and teammate Mark Webber during qualifying. As the green flag waved, the fuel heavy RB5 of Vettel sprung from the starting line to take an early lead... [read more]

Muscling his way out front, Vettel took the early lead and never looked back. Meanwhile, Barrichello and his BGP001 managed a solid start, retaining his second place spot through the first few laps. On the other hand, Brawn GP teammate and current F1 points leader, Jenson Button, struggled to find speed, leaving the starting line in sixth and quickly loosing three positions.

Having qualified seventh, Nico Rosberg and his Toyota powered Williams made quick work of the field, moving into fifth just behind the Ferrari of Felipe Massa.

Neither of the Renault R29's had what was needed this afternoon, with the 2006 World Champion Fernando Alonso struggling to find speed as the rest of the field nearly lapped him. Teammate Nelson Piquet Jr. had similar luck, although he did manage to finish 12th ahead of Alonso's 14th position.

His second fourth place finish of the season, Felipe Massa and his F60 Ferrari looked strong this afternoon, battling with both Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button for the position.

A great battled ensued between former karting rivals, Robert Kubica and Lewis Hamilton. While desperately trying to pass during the early part of the race, Hamilton, who claimed victory at Silverstone last year, was unable to overcome the downforce issues that have been plaguing him this season, allowing Kubica to maintain the lead while Hamilton was forced to pit. When Hamilton emerged from pitlane, Kubica had gained a sizable lead, one that would carry him to a 13th place finish.

Following a poor start, and for that matter a poor qualifying session, Brawn GP's Jenson Button would finish the day just as he started it, sixth overall. And while this was not the result he or Ross Brawn hoped for, his points lead in the driver's championship was seemingly unaffected.

A superb effort from Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, the young German collected his second win of the season (third of his career) when he crossed the line some 15.1 seconds ahead of Red Bull teammate Mark Webber.
