Phil McGovern has lived in the UAE for some time now. Often referred to as the Vegas of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates is known for its desert like climate and oil rich citizens, and will now play host to the final race of the 2009 Formula One season. Positioned in the Southeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, the UAE borders Oman and Saudi Arabia and is made up of seven states; Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah.

With a climate suited for motor racing and a population of rather wealthy citizens, it came as no surprise when Phil decided to launch CRANKandPISTON in order to highlight the ever growing motorsport community in the UAE. With coverage ranging from track days to the UAETCC (which Phil participates in), CRANKandPISTON looks to be the only online resource for UAE motorsport fans.
