THE ART OF KARTING IN THE RAIN // EVERGREEN'S WINTER SERIES

We headed out to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA this afternoon to check out the Winter kart racing series our editor, Justin Coffey, was supposed to be racing in. Due to foul weather (loads of rain, mist and an otherwise horrid day) his sponsors decided to pull the plug on this race. A wise decision.

The racing was slow and steady, with a number of drivers getting rather creative in order to stay dry (and be able to see). The Junior and Senior classes were fairly well represented, with both race drivers and fans (er, make that family) braving the weather for an opportunity to race. The course layout incorporates a portion of the speedways 5/8ths banking which meant opportunities to pass were only available in a handful of sections. With a proper start, pole sitters were able to pull out ahead and maintain a lead until the checkered flag waved. Good fun, good racing, we look forward to seeing what Mr.Coffey is capable of. Stay tuned!
