Showing itself at the Bologna Auto Show, Maserati’s ‘MC Sport Line’ is a much needed touch of go-fast, to an automaker seemingly intoxicated with the plush and lavish lifestyle touring car market. By no means unfamiliar with auto racing (example), Maserati seems to have lost its way, opting for wood grain over racing seats, electronic controlled suspensions over LSD’s. Now don’t take this the wrong way, we still like what Maserati is doing, hell, on the list of ‘wish I could own’ cars, the Quattroporte is near the top, but where did all that racing heritage go?
Well, Maserati seems to have answered that question with the release of their ‘MC Sport Line,’ a factory backed tuning package for cars like the above Gran Turismo S. Carbon-fiber side skirts, mirror housings and door handles, as well as a set of black 20in wheels complete the ‘track day’ appearance, but the carbon doesn’t stop there. A peek inside and you will notice an abundance of carbon-fiber this and that, not only helping to shed weight, but adding that much needed go-fast aesthetic we were talking about.
Now aesthetic upgrades are only the beginning, as the ‘MC Sport Line’ tuned Gran Turismo S features a set of stiffer springs, shocks and anti-roll bars all the way around, as well as a ride height some 10mm lower than stock. All of the components can be purchased as a package (seen above) or individually at the request of the owner. As much as we like what Maserati is doing, it is going to take a full blown, factory backed GT3 entry for us to believe the changes are here to stay. Your thoughts? // 12.04.2008
