I headed down to M-Cars this afternoon to check out a fully built, race prepped, PRO-3 BMW they just got on consignment. Now, fast cars are no new thing to the gentlemen at M-Cars (640bhp example), but a race ready BMW was a real treat. No sooner had I walked in the door, the shop manager was tossing me the keys and telling me to 'take it for a spin, you got all day!' My first time in a PRO-3 car, and I am behind the wheel, no complaints on my end.
A few minutes underneath this thing and you quickly realize all the hard work that has gone into it. A spec PRO-3 suspension, which includes but is not limited to, a set of Koni DA coilovers, Ireland offset control arm bushings, 650# (front) and 700# (rear) springs, as well as a Ground Control caster/camber kit, all reside beneath the body work. When I turned my attention to the interior, I took note of the Z3 1.9 short shift kit, Autopower 4-point roll bar with harness bar, Recaro SRD seats, Saebelt 5-point harnesses, the Halon fire suppression system and the M-tech steering wheel. With a fully rebuilt top end, upgraded clutch, braking and cooling systems, this 325is is ready to do battle in PRO-3.
Oh, about the test drive... Well, lets just say I have a new found respect for the guys that go fender to fender, nose to tail, every weekend in the ICSCC's PRO-3 class. A car that would find itself as comfortable on road as it does on track, this particular E30 is not far off the mark in terms of everything we could want in a car.
