A new version of the Renault Clio R3 Maxi called the 'Access' has recently been released. In an effort to promote both their brand and tarmac rally racing, Renault has worked with customers looking for an entry point into an otherwise costly endeavour. The Access will include a full roll-cage, six-speed sequential gearbox and limited slip differential, as well as a steering rack that incorporates a data acquisition system. Power comes via a modified version of the Clio Renaultsport 197’s 2.0-liter four cylinder, making a solid 200bhp. Strengthened struts and specific kinematics for the independent steering axis front suspension make up the undercarriage, while a set of one-piece, aluminum alloy, 17” Speedline wheels wrapped in Michelin tires keep it on the tarmac. Sabelt safety harnesses keep you properly seated and with a cost of €32,600 (additional to the cost of your Clio), the Access is a steal of a deal, according to Renault (who calculates the cost of rally racing at €17 per Kilometer). Not sure if were buying it (literally), considering we’ve seen quite a few lo-buck rally cars recently, but then again, it does take all the work out of it...hmm. Your thought? // 10.08.2008

That is:
ReplyDelete1) Seriously cool
2) Seriously expensive. €32,600, in Australian dollars (which is where I'm from) 64,000 which is pretty much double what the Clio Sport sells for here. So that's a $100,000 package.
There are cheaper ways to get into tarmac rally, methinks.
