If you have already heard that Sebastian Vettel, the youngest F1 driver to date, not only took the pole position in last Sunday's Italian Grand Prix at Monza, but also the win, we are certain you had to go elsewhere for the news. Don't worry, our feelings aren't hurt. We understand, and hope you do the same for us and our lack of updates. Wi-Fi is a bit harder to come by here in Italy then we expected, and we came somewhat unprepared, scrambling from coffee bar to coffee bar hoping to find even the slightest signal to put forth some updates while still stationed in Monza. All is not lost however. As stated above, Vettel not only took the pole on Saturday's (wet) qualifying, but an early lead at the green flag on Sunday, running ahead of the pack, all the way to his first win. The story is familiar, Ferrari power, German pilot, a win at Monza. But this time around, and the first time since 1957, it was not the factory Ferrari that took the win, but Ferrari powered Scuderia Torro Rosso with young Vettel at the wheel. Looking to take the lead from the young German, we watched as Lewis Hamilton made quick work of the field (having started fifteenth) and was soon leading the race at the half way point. Hamilton's wet weather rubber didn't hold however, and a slow pit stop put him back in the seventh spot where he would stay until the checkered flag waved. From our vantage point along the back straight, each lap drew another question. Who is in the lead now? How did that happen? What do you mean he spun?! Leaning in on our neighbors, we were able to garner the much needed information to keep us up on what was happening. The wet conditions provided for plenty of lead changes and near misses, but in the end it was 21 year young Vettel that took home his first win.
