SIXTY ONE YEARS AGO // A FREE MAN

This day in August, sixty one years ago, Ferdinand Porsche was released from a French prison, after the conclusion of WWII. Having been accused of collaborating with Nazi forces by occupying US and French authorities, Porsche was imprisoned for 20 months. While serving his sentence, his son Ferry (who had also been jailed, though released before his father) tried desperately to keep the Porsche brand alive. Upon his release, Porsche went back to doing what he had done best, build proper cars. Where would we be, had Ferdinand Porsche remained imprisoned? Would the world know the greatness of rear engined, air cooled, German supercars? Lets just be thankful, as questions like that can often lead to more questions and less answers // 08.05.2008
