VIDEO // 1994 WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

From our friends at The Rally Channel comes yet another compilation of vintage rally footage, this time highlighting the 1994 World Rally Championship. What some might consider the ultimate example of Group A competition, the 1994 WRC season saw Didier Auriol beat Carlos Sainz in a year long battle for the championship. Auriol, at the wheel of the potent Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD, collected three victories in 1994, including the Rallye Sanremo. Sainz on the other hand, managed only one victory in 1994, but was able to finish on the podium in six of the ten events that year.

With drivers like Auriol, Sainz, Kankkunen and McRae, as well as cars such as the Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD, Subaru Impreza 555 and the Ford Escort RS Cosworth doing battle on both gravel and tarmac, the 1994 WRC season certainly ranks high amongst the most interesting years of motorsport // [comment]
