Character. Probably the single most important thing a car should have. Save the expensive exhaust system, the custom offset wheels and the limited edition, only available in Japan, carbon-kevlar race seats. What we look for are flaws. Missing bits. Something that shows us this car is real, that it is used (and abused) and that it does not sit idly while its owner waits for the weather to turn. That said, for this weeks Miata Monday feature, we found this image of a race ready MX-5, absent of its hood, with cam sprockets peeking out from behind its front fascia, to be an excellent example of what we're look for. Any more shots of this one? Looks like it has a flared fender on the driver side, but not the passenger?
ReplyDeleteNice catch, Brian! That's the character we're talking about. Image comes courtesy of EatSleepShift (http://www.eatsleepshift.blogspot.com) although I didn't see any more images of this car the last time I was there... Maybe someone else in the Miata community will come up with something.

Hey Justin, where was this photo taken? We spotted it on EatSleepDrift w/o a source... Thanks for clearing things up! Great photosream, btw
ReplyDeleteOh No, its fine! I kinda like dropping in. These were taken at last years Import Alliance. These yata is amazing too, continues to make power to 8k rpms.
ReplyDeleteIt is the Fuji Racing Miata.

I was wondering if it was *the* fuji racing car. You know, last I heard this thing was destined for a rotor swap. But that little piston motor with the fuji IRTBs did make some unprecedented power at ridiculous revs.
ReplyDeleteThat's the fujiracing miata. Picture is from Import Alliance / Redline Time Attack at Nashville Superspeedway. Got to talk to Jimmy (owner) and Thomas (driver) between sessions. Got a huuuuuge ego boost when Thomas called me nuts after showing him my line through T1. It's a long wide sweeper after the straight, Have to go from ~100mph (with stockish miata power)to ~30mph while turning. Fun as hell.
ReplyDeleteCharacter!? I'll show you character!
