The SLS AMG GT3 race car will use the same 6.3-liter V8 as the road going car, however we are unsure of the horsepower rating, as the FIA is expected to decide on its final output sometime before the 2011 season would begin.
The aerodynamic improvements are significant on the SLS GT3 racer, with a massive carbon splitter attached to the front fascia and a huge rear wing adding additional downforce. An air vent has been incorporated into the hood, as well as air ducts added to the side skirts to help cool the the rear brakes.
Moving to the interior, the SLS GT3 features typical race car additions, er, deletions, like the absence of carpet, headliner, sound deadening material and a passenger seat. Carbon fiber bits and pieces, as well as an FIA approved roll cage finish out the insides.
With a long history in motorsport, it will be interesting to see how the newest iteration of the SL Mercedes does when it makes its racing debut sometime in 2011.
