SATURDAY SHOWCASE // THE 1968 MEXICAN GRAND PRIX

Two weeks after the Olympic Games, Mexico Ciy played host to the final Grand Prix of the 1968 Formula One season. In this segment of the British Broadcasting Channel’s ‘Wheelbase,’ watch as Barrie Gill and Robin Richards report on the ‘68 Mexican GP, a program that includes interviews with F1 lengends, Jackie Stewart, Denny Hulme, Colin Chapman and Graham Hill.

At the start of the race, three drivers were fighting for the World Championship; Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart and Denny Hulme. During qualifying however, their efforts were overshadowed by Jo Siffert who, at the wheel of Rob Walker’s Lotus 49, collected the pole position with Chris Amon’s Ferrari in second. Graham Hill and Denny Hulme shared the second row, while Dan Gurney and John Surtees sat side by side on the third row.
