Ahead of this, the 78th running of the infamous Monte Carlo Rally, Kubica was quoted as saying, "If the conditions will be like they were on the recce, very changeable, then it will be a very big challenge and one of the biggest challenges of my life to finish the rally."
And while Kubica suffered a rather unexpected error, Finland's Mikko Hirvonen, runner-up to Sebastien Loeb in the World Rally Championship last year, continues to lead the race in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta with a 41.9 second advantage over Britain's Kris Meeke in a Peugeot.
