Matteo Ferrari is a fashion photographer from Milan, Italy. Sometime around the turn of the century, Matteo decided to embark on a rather ambitious project. Riding around Italy on his scooter, he bagan looking for people who not only drove and maintained a vintage automobile, but people who had owned one for quite some time.
"I found these people by leaving notes on old cars I would see parked around town, even by actually stopping people in the street, and also by telling everyone I know about it and asking them to spread the word."
After contacting a number of people, Matteo soon had a collection of photos, some of which dated back to 1966. He then proceeded to recreate the images these people sent him, setting up a photoshoot with them and their automobile in the same location as the original photo, only some 30 years later... Before the year is out, Matteo will travel to Latin America, Spain and Protugal in order to finish his project. He has already sold the rights to a publisher and a book of his completed project is expected within the next year.
To call this an ambitious project is a bit of an understatement. What Matteo Ferrari has created is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting photographic projects I have ever seen.
