There are few things that bring me as much joy as the Bathurst 1000. The Mount Panorama Circuit is one of the most impressive, not to mention beautiful, race tracks in the world and the brave souls that lap her 3.86 mile layout are truly an inspiration. In todays terms, the Bathurst 1000 and Australia's V8 Supercars are everything I wish NASCAR was. Tube frame, V8 powered monsters, racing on a handful of Australian circuits, none of which involve excessive left turns. The competition is intense, the cars impressive. In their current incarnation, the V8 Supercars are quite similar to the NASCAR chassis currently lapping an oval near you, however the addition of two rear doors and the absence of ovals makes for some proper racing. Well, enough with my opinions on NASCAR. What we have here is a video of Tom Wilkinshaw's qualifying lap from the 1985 Bathurst 1000. Follow the link for a look, and ride along with Tom in his TWR Jaguar XJS V12 as it laps the Mount Panorama Circuit... [read more]

Good God, that's phenomenal. Great car, great circuit!
ReplyDeleteBathurst before the chicanes. WHAT a wonderful circuit.
ReplyDeleteAnd before safety barriers for the most part!!!
ReplyDeleteThey need to show THAT on the telecast!
That would be a wild ride, certainly a lot more challenging than it is now!
