Fifteen years ago today, the motorsport world lost one of its most important figures. Ayrton Senna, three time Formula One world champion, died while leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, Italy. Senna's death marked a very dark time for Formula One, as Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger had died as the result of an accident during qualifying only a day earlier.
The last driver to be killed during a race, Senna's death did however prompt the FIA to implement many of the current safety precautions, ending an era of rather dangerous racing.
