Better late then never, here is our coverage of the 2009 Redline Time Attack season opener at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park. ColdTrackDays correspondent and Kinod.net photographer, Jesse Lee, made the trip to Buttonwillow and has put together a stunning slideshow from the weekend's festivities. Follow the link for a look at some of Jesse's photos, as well as some video from past Redline events at Buttonwillow... [read more]
Manly Kao's trackHQ.com/Toyo Tire Lotus Elise looked strong all day, setting the pace for the Street RWD class with a 1:58.872 lap time.
Here is the trackHQ.com/Toyo Tires 2005 Lotus Elise lapping Buttonwillow during the opening round of the 2008 Redline Time Attack Series. The Elise finished first in the Street RWD class with a 2:01.178
The SportCar Motion EG Civic Hatchback of Tim Kuo took the win in the Modified FWD class with a staggering 1:55.809 lap time, only a half second off the pace of Modified AWD class winner, Ryan Gates and his Gates311.com/AMS Evo X.
Friend of ColdTrackDays (note the sticker on the front bumper!), Kenny Chieu, took 11th in the Street RWD class with his highly modified Toyota MR-S. With his 2:05.662 lap time, Kenny was not far off the pace of the Street RWD class winner, Manly Kao.
Formula D competitor, Tyler McQuarrie, took the wheel of the C-West/BC Honda S2000 hoping to claim victory in the Unlimited RWD class. However, McQuarries 1:47.992 lap time was not enough to defeat the FX Motorsports Development Acura NSX, which laid down a 1:45.516, the fastest lap of the weekend.
Here is a short video of Tyler McQuarrie as he breaks the track record at Buttonwillow in the Hankook Tire/JIC USA Nissan Silvia, on April 27, 2007. While McQuarrie could not manage the same success this year, his C-West/BC Honda S2000 did perform well, finishing second in the Unlimited RWD class.
The BDX Ford Mustang of Allan Crocket was one of a handful of Mustangs that made the trip to Buttonwillow last weekend. Crocket's Mustang finished 9th overall in the Street RWD class, with his fastest lap being 2:04.977.
The Crawford Performance Subaru Impreza STI of Tarzan Yamada took the win in the Unlimited AWD class, with a 1:48.883 lap time. This will be the second year in the Redline Time Attack Series for both Yamada and his STI, and both looked strong at the season opener. However, with a rather limited class (only three cars in the U-AWD class), Yamada's victory does not come as a surprise.
8th overall in the Street RWD class was the First Auto/K&W Autobody Acura NSX of Eddie Lim, who laid down a 2:03.877 lap. A car that begs to be driven, we expect to see more NSX's competing in the Redline Time Attack as motorsport enthusiasts continue to take advantage of their affordability.
The Nitto/949 Racing Corvette Z06 of Charles Ng, claimed victory in the Modified RWD class with a lap time of 1:56.422.
