Italian motorsport engineering firm Dallara, known for building single seat Formula class cars (to include the chassis used in the GP2 Championship, the World Series by Renault, almost the entire Formula 3 series and a handful of IRL cars), have just released what they are calling the Formulino.
An entry class Formula car designed to meet the needs of those looking for an affordable entry into the motorsport world, the Formulino’s (Italian for ‘little formula’) will be offered in three models; Base, Plus and Pro. With varying degrees of aero and suspension performance (the ‘Base’ model is similar to the SCCA’s Formula Vee, while the ‘Pro’ model comes close to F3 specs), the Formulino's will feature a carbon monocoque chassis fitted with a Hewland FTR gearbox intended to withstand engine packages with upwards of 250bhp.
Prices start at about $51,600 for the ‘Base’ model and top out at around $87,000 for a fully equipped ‘Pro’ model. Reasonable entry costs for Formula class racing, the folks at Dallara have our attention. For more information, click here // 01.12.2009
