Audi just unveiled their V10 powered R8 and we can’t help but notice, it’s a bit like the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. Power to all four wheels (like the Gallardo), 528bhp and 398-ft/lbs of torque are derived from 5.2-liters of V10 displacement (hmm, sounds familiar) and the re-powered R8 can now sprint to sixty in just 3.9 seconds (a mere 0.2 seconds slower than the Italian). So what’s the deal? Well if you haven’t noticed, the Gallardo’s 5.2-liter V10 has found its way beneath the hood, or mid-section in this case, of a number of Audi’s lately. The S8 uber sedan and RS6 uber wagon for example. Cross pollination courtesy of Volkswagen’s recent purchase of Lamborghini has provided a much needed aesthetic renewal to Audi, as well as a handful of potent engines for them to choose from. The end result; a mid-mounted, all-wheel drive supercar, with rugged German good looks and smooth Italian power. We love it // 12.09.2008
