As announced, the 2010 WRC cars are expected to be produced under the S2000 guidelines. The new Super-2000 rally cars will utilize a 2.0-liter (or smaller) engine with no electronic aids, and will feature a removable performance kit, complete with spec’d turbochargers, aero packages and a few other small modifications, all of which is said to raise performance some 50bhp. The new performance package is intended to separate the experienced drivers from the less experienced, as a slower, less powerful rally car is far easier to control. But the FIA’s true intention is not to regulate speed or performance, it is to reduce cost. The S2000 kit is expected to cost around 30,000 euro and will hopefully draw a few additional manufactures to the WRC // 12.15.2008
