Now Samuel Hubinette may be known as the ‘Crazy Swede,’ but he certainly does not drive a mild mannered Swedish sedan. Exchanging his Mopar Drift Dodge Viper, for something a bit smaller, at least in terms of cubic inches, Hubinette will be debuting his 2009 Challenger drift car at the start of next years Formula D season. Showing itself at this weekends SEMA show, the new Challenger features a few upgrades over the showroom floor model. 850bhp is derived from a HEMI V8, and an abundance of carbon fiber helps the Challenger shed a few pounds. But the biggest surprise... how about a set of roller blade wheels along the rear corners of the car?! What's the deal? Well Mopar hopes that when our crazy Swedish friend brings the back end a little too close to the wall, instead of loosing some of those pricey carbon bits, the Challenger will glide along the wall like Tanya Harding... I thought of the Rollerblade wheel a few months back. It will be interesting to see how it works out.
ReplyDeleteNow I'll have to go with plan B. A nice titanium skidplate on the bumper corners.
The sparks would be way cooler.
The extensive cage work and removal of factory unibody is seriously pushing the limits on the factory unibody rules of FD.
It will be interesting to see how FD scrutineers react.
I'd be very interested to see what they have to say about that cage. It doesn't seem to me like it passes FD rules, although they may have just skipped the firewall and not tied it together.
ReplyDeleteThe roller's aren't going to save them, with that much weight my bet is they just break anytime he touches the wall.
