Sebastien Loeb has collected his fifth consecutive drivers championship, and though Mikko Hirvonen took the win in Japan (in a one-two finish for Ford), it wasn’t enough to take the title from Loeb. The 2008 Rally Japan saw a total of 27 stages run, one of which was a special exhibition stage held within the confines of the Sapporo Dome. The fourteenth rally of the season, Japan was the last chance for any come from behind title hopes that the Ford team may have had. With a driver’s championship secured, Loeb has little to worry about entering into the final rally of the season, the Wales Rally GB.
