Unexplained financial circumstances have forced the Federation Francaise du Sport Automobile (FFSA) to bail out on the French Grand Prix for the 2009 season. This news comes the same week as the FIA released an updated F1 calendar, absent of the Canadian Grand Prix. Unless outside investors prop up the struggling French GP, it appears there is no future for F1 in France. Coming as quite a shock, the French GP is not only an important race on the current F1 calendar, but is of great historical importance to the Formula One community. The oldest surviving motor race, the French GP has been run since 1906, and was the first international event to be titled a ‘Grand Prix.’ With the loss of Canada’s GP race and now the French GP, the Formula One calendar for 2009 is starting to look a little slim...
