Rumors on the blogosphere spoke poorly of Kimi Raikkonen's future at Ferrari. With a somewhat unspectacular season thus far, Raikkonen did not appear to be a shoe in for next years driver line up. But the rumors have subsided, and truth be told, Raikkonen will return in red next year, along with current teammate and second in the drivers championship (as of Valencia), Felipe Massa. Word came from the Italian marque’s president, Luca di Montezemolo, while visiting the final day of Monza testing this past Friday. When asked about Raikkonen's performance as of late, Montezemolo said, “I have heard the criticisms of Kimi but a few bad races does not mean you are in crisis.” Making his rounds at Monza testing, Montezemolo stopped for a brief second with both current points leader Lewis Hamilton, as well as Fernando Alonso. Though speaking highly of Massa and his most recent performance at Valencia, the Ferrari president went on to state, “No-one should forget who is the world champion, after he (Raikkonen) did what not many predicted, triumph in his first year (2007) with Ferrari. Kimi is motivated and we must work hard to help him qualify higher, especially on all these new circuits that I do not like, and that are bad for F1: you cannot overtake, and nine times out of ten the winner is he who gets pole.” The Belgian Grand Prix begins in 3d 00h 35m 24s, and all eyes will be on both of the Ferrari's as we enter the later part of the 2008 season. Stay with ColdTrackDays, as we will provide plenty of F1 coverage as the season wraps up // 09.01.2008
