Barrett-Jackson will be auctioning off Carroll Shelby's first race car, a fully restored 1953 MG TC. Shelby, synonymous with beating Ferrari's and making the good into the great, began his racing career in the above British roadster. Going on to pilot an assortment of Aston Martin's and Maserati's in the late 1950's, Shelby and co-driver Roy Salvadori, won the 24hrs of Le Mans for Aston in 1959. Due to a heart condition, (one he kept secret until after the 24hrs) Shelby retired from racing after his big win. His career then changed course, focusing on production and team management, most famously with his Shelby Daytona Coupes and Cobra's, piloted by a host of famous names such as Ken Miles, Bob Bondurant, Dan Gurney, Phil Hill and Jack Sears. Undoubtedly a priceless piece of motorsport history, the '53 MG TC that Shelby once raced (in a pair of overalls, he would later become famous for wearing) will see the auction block, sure to fetch a high dollar // 08.15.2008
