They call them feeders. A racing series with similar (slower) cars and smaller budgets, training drivers and producing the next F1 stars. A short hop to Formula One, the GP2 championship has produced the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Heikki Kovalainen, Nelson Piquet Jr. and Timo Glock, seating drivers in F1 cars since its inception in 2005. So what's this? Bernie Ecclestone is planning a GP3 series? Looking to compete directly with the Formula 3 series, a unsorted (confusing) racing series with no united champion, GP3 would be the feeder to the feeder. With a cap of € 450,000 per car, the new GP3 series would be a more realistic version of what Max Mosley was attempting to do, when he proposed a € 200,000 capped Formula 2 series. Whatever the case, all this Mosley vs Eccelstone business spells one thing as far as we're concerned, more racing // 08.14.2008
