Fifty years ago, Ferrari created something that has left a lasting impression on the automotive community. Only 105 were ever produced, including a racing bred edition that featured all aluminum body work, a larger gas tank and a more powerful engine (not to mention a few racing victories). The car we are talking about is the Ferrari California 250 GT Spyder, and to celebrate the release of the California's latest incarnation, Ferrari is putting on a show. Well, more like making a scene at what is already one of the most coveted events in the automotive world, the Pebble Beach Concourse D'Elegance. In keeping with the spirit of Pebble Beach, our Italian friends from Maranello will be showcasing a number of rare and hard to find California's, including the prototype that started it all. Visitors to Pebble Beach will also be able to see the only Ferrari 400 Superamerica built by the factory with California Spyder coachwork. This is the fist appearance of the car, anywhere, ever. Only 50 examples of the standard Superamerica were ever built, making it one of the most desirable cars out there, not to mention hard to find. We only wish a trip to Pebble Beach was in our future... there is always next year // 07.10.2008
