VIDEO // BRIAN REDMAN + 1971 PORSCHE 908/3

Courtesy of our friends at the Axis of Oversteer and Checkered Flag Films, check out this wonderful footage featuring Brian Redman and the legandary Porsche 908/3. Powered by a 360hp 2997cc air-cooled flat-eight, and weighing just 1200lbs, the 908/3 was built to compete in but two races, the Targa Florio and Nurburgring 24 Hours. Just 13 examples were produced, eleven in 1969-1970, and two in 1971. In the video featured above, watch as Redman drives the 908/3 to a Group 7A victory during last years Monterey Historics // [comment}

EVENT // JAMES JORDAN @ THE MONTEREY HISTORICS

Earlier this week I spoke with James Jordan, a director at the Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development program. James had traveled North from his home in San Diego last week, so that he could enjoy the sights and sounds of the 2009 Monterey Historics. Joining him at Laguna Seca was Garth Stein, author of The Art of Racing in the Rain, as well as Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey. I asked James if he'd be willing to share a few photos from the event, as we were unable to find a photographer that could make the trip. James obliged, and what follows are but a few of the photos he took over the course of the weekend... [read more]

NEWS // FERRARI 250 TR CRASHES @ MONTEREY HISTORICS

During last weekends Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca, photographer Drew Philips captured one of the most depressing moments I have ever seen. One of only 34 250 Testa Rossas built by Ferrari from 1956 through 1961, this particular 1958 250 TR, one of only 21 examples built between 1958-1959 and valued at nearly $8 million dollars, lost control at the top of Laguna Seca's corkscrew, ran full speed through the gravel, collided head long into the tire barrier and then came to rest at the bottom of the two-part turn. A truly sad moment, follow the link for additional photos... [read more]

FOR SALE // PHIL HILL'S JAGUAR C-TYPE (XKC-007)

Running in conjunction with the Monterey Historics and the Concourse d’Elegance, Pebble Beach will also play host to the much anticpated launch of the new ‘Grand Bentley’ as well as a massive collector car auction. Amongst the cars expected to roll across the auction block during RM's Sports & Classics of Monterey, will be Ettore Buggati's own Type 57C, a one-of-a-kind Miller V16 race car and this, Phil Hill’s 1952 Jaguar C-Type... [read more]

The first C-Type Jaguar to be imported stateside (model XKC-007), this particular import was send straight to the race track where Hill drove it to three victories at Elkhart Lake, Torrey Pines and Watkins Glen.

After being retired from racing duty, Hill’s XKC-007 found itself in the hands of numerous collectors and enthusiasts before undergoing a full restoration in 1986. Additionally, during a celebration for Jaguar's 50th anniversary in 2002, Phil Hill and his C-Type Jaguar were reunited long enough for Hill to sign his iconic race car.

While the value of Hill’s former race car remains to be seen, one would expect a piece of motorsport history such as this to fetch a great deal of money.
