FOR SALE // GURNEY'S '69 MUSTANG BOSS 302 ON EBAY

Dan Gurney’s 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is up for sale on eBay Motors with a ‘Buy it Now’ price of $1.1 million. Helping Ford to a second place finish in the 1969 Trans-Am manufacturers championship, Gurney’s former Mustang certainly has a racing pedigree. According to the listing, this particular Mustang was the prototype for the rest of the Trans-Am Mustangs that competeted that year and was driven to a fourth place finish at Laguna Seca by Peter Revson.

After Carroll Shelby pulled out of Trans-Am competition, Gurney's Boss 302 found itself being used as a wind-tunnel test car by Ford. A few years later, the Mustang was back on track, racing in various series across the country and collecting an SCCA Championship in the process.

In 2003 Gurney's former Boss 302 was restored to its 1969 configuration, complete with a 527hp 302 c.i. V8 under the hood. The listing on eBay Motors includes an abundance of documentation, to include signed letters of authenticity from Carroll Shelby, as well as Kar Kraft engineering drawings and a handful of photos of the car when it raced in Trans-Am.

TRANS-AM // WHAT'S OLD IS NEW AGAIN

I thought I had seen every bit of film shot during the Trans-Am era, endlessly scouring YouTube channels and video store shelves, watching anything and everything related to what I feel was the greatest era in motorsport. Apparently I was wrong.

Featured below is not some exclusive, never before seen footage. What it is, is a look at the late 1960's, at the people and places that defined the SCCA's Trans-Am series, at the excitement, the interest and the enthusiasm that is, in my opinion, non-existent these days.

That said however, with the resurgence of American made muscle cars in racing series like the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, the SCCA's World Challenge and the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, I have to admit, it seems like we've come full circle... [read more]

NEWS // FORD RACING TO RELEASE 2010 BOSS 302R

Rumor has it Ford Racing will release a 2010 Boss 302R Mustang, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the original Boss 302’s 1970 Trans-Am championship, and continuing their tradition of factory supported motorsports with yet another one-off Mustang. No images of the car have been released, however we assume it will look similar to the FR500S and FR500C.

Built for ‘off-road’ use only, production of the 2010 Boss 302R will be limited to just 50 cars, with a base price of $79,000. Two versions will be made available, with a base package intended to compete in both SCCA and NASA classes, while the upgraded version is rumored to be Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series legal. The Boss 302R will be powered by a newly developed four-valve 5.0-liter V8 said to make 400hp. A six speed transmission will help put power to pavement, while a race-spec suspension, brakes and an abundance of safety equipment, including a full roll cage, seats and harnesses, will complete the package. The KONI spec 302R is rumored to have a sealed high-output race engine, seam-welded body, fuel cell, a data acquisition system and will run you more like $129,000 // [comment]

Polesitter Tommy Drissi in his Ice Age Jaguar held his lead position into the tight first turn chicane complex, with Greg Pickett in another Jaguar following close behind.

Pickett continued to chase Drissi for many laps. The two were never more than two car lengths apart as other competitors started to drop out due to various problems.

Pickett was eventually able to mount a challenge on Drissi, With flames spewing out the exhaust, Pickett outbraked Drissi into the turn 1 chicane complex.

Pickett held his new lead, even pulling out a gap between himself and second place Drissi until with only a handful of laps remaining his engine suffered a massive and spectacular failure.

Tommy Drissi took his 2nd career win, nine years after his first.
