MIATA MONDAY // 949 RACING'S SUPER MIATA

Our friends at 949 Racing are in the process of building an entry for the 2011 Super Miata series. Essentially a variation of the ever popular Spec Miata series, Super Miata looks to fill the gap between time attack and circuit racing, allowing drivers to race wheel-to-wheel in cars a bit more powerful than your average SM racer. MIATA MONDAY // STANCE:NATION

Our apologies for the lack of Miata Monday posts these last few weeks. There seems to be a shortage of feature worthy roadsters at the moment :( That being said, we did just came across this image on Stance:Nation of what appears to be a well equipped MX-5. According to the post, this Miata is owned by a Georgia native named Derek and is driven daily. Well done // [comment]

VIDEO // WIRE TUCK & DIY PAINT JOB ON CAHILL'S MIATA

Our friend Nick Cahill posted this video to our Facebook page the other day and I thought we'd share it with those of you not participating in the social networking revolution. The video, which was shot by Nick and his friends as they worked on his turbo powered Miata, highlights the "Honda show car style" wire tuck as well as the DIY paint job they performed in Cahill's garage // [comment]

MIATA MONDAY // THE DARK AND STORMY

I'm not certain, but I'd be willing to bet that this MX-5 roadster, which belongs to So-Cal native, Chris Lee, is as fast as it looks. Having been under the knife for months on end, Chris's Miata is now back on the road and will be terrorizing Southern California race tracks just as soon as it can. The photo featured above, which was taken by our friend, Jay Lee, is but one in a series of shots featuring Chris's NA Miata, a car that we've dubbed The Dark and Stormy. MIATA MONDAY // DICKER @ MIATA CHALLENGE: ROUND 5

This is our friend Derek Dicker collecting another class win during last weekends Miata Challenge at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada. MIATA MONDAY // JAPFEST @ CASTLE COMBE CIRCUIT

ColdTrackDays correspondent, Calvin Chu, just sent us this shot of an NA Miata running laps around the Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire, England, during last weekends Japfest, what is "Europe's biggest Japanese Car Show." Be sure and stay tuned for a full report later in the week // [comment]

MIATA MONDAY // LAPPING LAGUNA SECA

The car featured above belongs to a gentleman by the name of Scott, who, like a number of Miata owners I know, has been upgrading his roadster since the day he bought it. Powered by Mazda's 1.8-liter BP-I4 motor, Scott has since replaced the head with a ported and polished unit from a '99 Miata, added four Maruha Motors 45mm individual throttle bodies and stripped the powerplant of all the unnecessaries. The drivetrain has seen the addition of an ACT heavy duty clutch, Toda chromoly flywheel, Kaaz 1.5 way LSD, and a Maruha 4.875 final drive, while a set of Tein Flex coilovers help put power to the ground.

Aerodynamic and aesthetic improvements include the massive Rotora 3D GT rear wing, a custom front splitter with Garage Vary canards and APR splitter rods, Jubride fender flares, as well as a set of Work Meister S1's with 225/45/15 Toyo R888s mounted to them. MIATA MONDAY // SANS HOOD

I'm not sure why, but the understated aesthetic of an automobile sans hood is clearly a favorite of mine. Maybe it's that, in terms of race cars, nothing is ever really finished. There is always one more modification, one more thing that needs to be fixed, and that no matter how long you've owned it, or how many times you've raced the thing, it can always be improved upon. And so is the case with this little roadster. Minus the bonnet, it appears to have all the necessary bits required to go fast and have a good time. But the fact that it's missing something is a reminder that there is still room for improvement // [comment]

MIATA MONDAY // IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS

In an ocean of tuned sports cars, it's the details that might set one Mazda Miata apart from the rest. Wheel choice, added aero (or the lack thereof), headlight enhancement, the iconic racing stripes, side-mirror relocation, things that, you know, might not seem like drastic improvements, but when looked at collectively, take a Miata from mundane to more than impressive // [comment]

MIATA MONDAY // MIATAS @ MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA

This weeks Miata Monday feature comes to us courtesy of Phil Walter who was lucky enough to spend the weekend hanging out with a bunch of Miata enthusiasts. Celebrating the birth of Mazda's MX-5 roadster, Miatas at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, now in its second year, is a two day event that incorporates both on and off track activities. Held, as you might have guessed, at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, this years event included two days of track time, a giveaway of a full Öhlins suspension, including installation and setup, a banquet with Derek Jenkins, head of design for Mazda North America, as well as nightly BBQs and a car show to wrap things up // [comment]

MIATA MONDAY // WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Character. Probably the single most important thing a car should have. Save the expensive exhaust system, the custom offset wheels and the limited edition, only available in Japan, carbon-kevlar race seats. What we look for are flaws. Missing bits. Something that shows us this car is real, that it is used (and abused) and that it does not sit idly while its owner waits for the weather to turn. That said, for this weeks Miata Monday feature, we found this image of a race ready MX-5, absent of its hood, with cam sprockets peeking out from behind its front fascia, to be an excellent example of what we're look for. MIATA MONDAY // HARDCORE W/O THE HARDTOP

Most, if not all, of the MX-5 roadsters we have featured here as a part of Miata Monday have been adorned with Mazda's optional hardtop. Adding stiffness and aerodynamic advantages, we can see why so many enthusiast spend the extra thousand to keep a roof over their heads. That said, there is still a special place in our hearts for those willing to keep their Miata topless (#PeterLi) // [comment]

MIATA MONDAY // A SILVER FOX ON WORK EQUIP 03s

This weeks Miata Monday feature comes to us, yet again, from our friends at EatSleepShift. And while we might agree that the Work Equip 03 meets Mazda Miata bit has been done, maybe even overdone, you have to admit, when you add proper ride height, fender flares and a hardtop, you're likely to get one hell of a good looking roadster // [comment]

MIATA MONDAY // MAKE IT RED

I have to admit, I think Mazda's MX-5 roadster looks best in either black or white. But the color you see most often, the color most people associate with the Miata, is red. And while the MX-5 featured above appears to be updated and upgraded like many we have featured here on CTD, you cannot deny that simple improvements become significant ones when done correctly. Appropriate ride height, roll cage, rims, a carbon-fiber hardtop and a racing seat. Does a Miata need anything else? We think not.

There are but a few things one must to do to take their MX-5 from hairdresser to hair raiser; cage, camber and cornering ability. I have to admit, I have no idea where this photo came from. It was buried amongst hundreds of Miata images stored on my hard drive and when prompted by my good friend, Brian Benthin, to post this weeks Miata Monday feature, I hurriedly searched my archives for a worthy image. MIATA MONDAY // SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!

This is Derek. Derek drove his NA Miata to a first place finish in the Stock Class at the Speed Venture Miata Challenge earlier this month. Derek was wearing his ColdTrackDays t-shirt during the event, which as we all know adds 20hp. Did we mention Derek is our hero.
