A Royal Australian Air Force flight mechanic before he began his career in motorsport, Sir John Arthur Brabham's story is certainly one of legend. Born April 2nd 1926, Brabham saw early success racing midgets in his native Australia and soon found himself in the United Kingdom, looking to further his racing career while working for the Cooper Car Company's racing team. There, Brabham not only helped build and race the cars, but was a part of the team that designed the mid-engined cars the Cooper Car Company introduced to both Formula One and the Indianapolis 500. In 1962 Brabham and fellow Australian Ron Tauranac launched the Brabham marque, what was to be the largest manufacturer of custom racing cars during the 1960s.
