MUSTANG HOT LAPS @ PACIFIC RACEWAYS // PART ONE

Yesterday afternoon, Brad's Custom Auto and ProFormance Racing School hosted the first annual Mustang Hot Laps at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington. I headed out a bit later than I wanted to and was forced to sit through mid-day traffic on my way to the racetrack. Certainly worth the wait however, as a handful of rare and highly tuned Mustangs came out for an afternoon of on track action. Follow the link for a look at a few of the cars in the paddock and be sure and stay tuned for part two... [read more]

With Brad's Custom Auto and Baer Brakes having setup a full display of available brake options and tuning packages, this was any Mustang enthusiasts dream tent. Personally, I think the six-piston calipers and 13.5" cross-drilled and slotted rotors would look mighty nice on Miss Ali MacGraw...

Lap days are a rather unique experience. Street driven cars, with their tires having been swapped for slicks, harness and roll cages installed, are then driven to the local road course and abused, for three to four hours, lap after lap. The owner, who typically does all of the work himself, then swaps back to his 'streetable' tires and drives home... Brilliant.

While I didn't get to talk to the owner of this 1968(7) Mustang GT, I have to assume it is powered by a 390c.i. V8 and was rather well equipped for both daily driving and track abuse.

This is a Ford Mustang FR500C. It is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 making somewhere between 400-500bhp. It is a factory prepped race car and as far as I am concerned, one of the most appealing ways to go racing.

While I never saw this Mustang on track, it certainly looked good sitting in the paddock. Any thoughts on why there is a 1963 plate on it?

This one is for Linhbergh. Fox-Body, four cylinder, turbocharged, the SVO Mustang is one of the most overlooked performance cars of the 1980's, in my opinion.

This 1968 Mustang coupe was all business. Stay tuned for some on-track shots...

There were a handful of Ford GT's in the paddock, however I didn't see any of them on track. One of the most desirable Fords ever built, this particular example had a Whipple Supercharger to help it along.

Be sure and stay tuned for part two of our coverage from the first annual Mustang Hot Laps at Pacific Raceways!

  1. Don't forget. StangNation.com was the site who thought of the whole lapping day, and NOS energy drinks was also a sponsor.
