For part three of our look at France's finest, check out this incredible shot of a Renault Alpine A110 as it competes in the 2008 Rallye Deutschland.
Also known as the Renault 'Berlinette,' the Alpine A110 was produced from 1961-1977 and featured a variety of powerplants, to include the 1.5-liter Lotus Europa. A a successful bit of machinery, the Alpine A110 took a notable win at the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally. Then, following a complete buyout of Alpine by Renault, the French automaker entered an A110 in the 1973 World Rally Championship with Bernard Darniche, Jean-Pierre Nicolas and Jean-Luc Thérier sharing driving duties. The cars rear engine-rear drive layout allowed the French rally car to dominate on the windy gravel roads of Europe, however the introduction of the Lancia Stratos (the first purpose built rally car) in 1974, spelled the end for Renault's Alpine. None the less, the Alpine A110 is one of our favorite automobiles, combining French style with a bit of old fashion go-fast // [comment]
