FAST LAP TO FALL // ICSCC @ PACIFIC RACEWAYS

Last weekend ColdTrackDays correspondent Camden Thrasher journeyed South from his native Bellingham, hoping to provide some stellar images from the final ICSCC race of the year, the Fast Lap to Fall. CAMDEN'S CUBICLE // THE 'CAR TENDER CHALLENGE' @ PR

Last weekend, ColdTrackDays correspondent Camden Thrasher left the comfort of his Portland home and drove 175 miles North to Pacific Raceways. What would drive a man to venture that far North, that far from the comfort of his easy chair, with no place to stay (ed note- actually, he slept on my couch) and a forecast of unbearable heat? Well, last weekend just so happened to be the ICSCC's Car Tender Challenge, and with a huge turnout expected, Camden couldn't resist the chance to shoot some of his favorite Northwest drivers as they competed for Conference glory.

As always, a diverse group of cars made the trip to PR, to include this GT1 Pontiac GTO

This Alfa Romeo Spider is one of my favorite ICSCC competitors.

Needless to say, the vintage 'Midget' class provided spectators with some serious racing action.

As always, the PRO-3 class turned out in force and proceeded to race fender to fender all weekend.

MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME // PRO-3 @ PORTLAND - JUNE 2009

A few days after we left for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a group of Northwest PRO-3 drivers converged on Portland International Raceway for what was to be one of the largest PRO-3 races in the relatively short history of the series. MIXING IT UP // IRDC SEASON OPENER AT PACIFIC RACEWAYS

Pacific Raceways played host to the IRDC last weekend, with more than 50 cars making the trip to the Kent race track for three full days of club racing and camaraderie. ColdTrackDays spent the better part of Sunday afternoon at PR enjoying the last bit of sunshine while three race groups took to the track for their final races of the weekend... [read more]

In the GT1 class, Tim Brown's Ford Mustang seemed unstoppable, taking an early lead and never looking back. Quite the surprise considering his competition consisted of tube-frame NASCAR chassis GT1's...

Running in the EIP class were a number of PRO-3 BMW's. Having to shed a few pounds in order to compete, the field was mixed with Spec Miata and a few light weight front-drive cars. The PRO-3's fared well against their underpowered competition, pulling away on Pacific Raceways long front straightaway. The Spec Miatas however made quick work of the back section, reducing the Germans lead to but a few tenths of a second by the time rounded turn 8 and headed back down the front straight.

TC Motorsports had a strong presence at last weekends IRDC race, with a pair of Miatas running in the ITA class. Not present however, were the TC Motorsports E30's.

Fred Wright's PRO-3 BMW ran in the EIP class as well, proving to be good competition for the lighter, more agile Miatas. Fred also ran his E30 in the season opening Northwest Endurance Racing Series '6 Hours of Pacific Raceways,' which unfortunately was shortened to 1.5 hours due to heavy snowfall.

John Walker had a solid weekend, running mid-pack in the mixed EIP-ITA class. His SM represents all that we love about grassroots racing, with no corporate sponsorship to help fund his effort, Walker has to be cautious of tire wear while simultaneously pushing hard as to avoid being a back marker...

Eventual race winner and certainly the fastest car on track in the mixed EIP-ITA class, was this Alfa Romeo spider. Having pulled away to an early lead, the Italian convertible proved to be unbeatable, driving hard down the front straight and maintaining good speed through the back section of Pacific Raceways.
