Before the much anticipated Gran Turismo 5 hits store shelves this winter, the gentlemen at Red Bull Racing decided to unveil their contribution to what some are saying is the greatest driving simulator since, well, the last Gran Turismo title. Dubbed the X1 Prototype, Red Bull's X1 is the brainchild of Adrian Newey, the aerodynamicist responsible for much of Red Bull's success in the Formula One arena, with additional input coming from Sebastian Vettel.
The X1 is (theoretically) powered by a gas turbine that produces 1,483 horsepower and 527 lb-ft of torque. Simulated performance statistics give the X1 a top speed of 249 miles per hour, and, according to our friends at GT Planet, the prototype lapped the Suzuka Circuit in 1:11.540, nearly 20 seconds faster than Vettel's time in Red Bull's 2009 F1 car.
