Having finished several races, but failing to take a podium during the remainder of the ‘66 season, Bandini was under tremendous preassure heading into the 1967 season. When the championship reached Monaco that year, Bandini was well on his way to a podium finish, chasing down race leader Denny Hulme.
While entering the chicane near the harbor, Bandini clipped the inside of the turn with the front wheel of his Ferrari 312. The car rolled, caught fire, and Bandini, having suffered severe chest injuries during the initial crash, was unable to remove himself from the wreckage. Bandini’s racing carrer included victories at Le Mans in 1963, the Austrian Grand Prix in 1964, the Targa Florio in 1965 and the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1967.

I personally admire Bandini. In fact, I dreamed of having a boyfriend as great as him in cars. But he is a one of a kind. =)
