NSW STATE SUPERSPRINTS // AUSTRALIAN FOR TIME ATTACK

Long before the words Time Attack had ever been heard in Australia, a small portion of the motorsport fraternity where competing in similar styled events know as Supersprints. This style of event consists of several different classes where competitors head out in session and complete six flying laps with a warm up and cool down lap. The fastest time of the day for each individual is recorded and compared to other similar modified cars that make up a class. This style of event is really blossoming in Australia with over 90 competitors at each state round and thousands of competitors at club level Supersprints. The was evident last weekend, which saw Round 3 of the NSW State Supersprints take place at Wakefield Park Race Way in Goulburn, Australia (about 2 hours drive from Sydney)... [read more]

The fastest time of the day went to Anthony Preston in his Yamaha R1 powered clubman with a time of 1:03.58

Second fastest time and fastest female went to Michele Guyer in her March 87B open wheeler.

The most popular class in the field was the clubman class which show some serious potential on a track layout like this. The class is so diverse with some expensive to Lotus 7 chassis to home built Locosts.

Duncan Forrest was out in his recently purchased R35 Skyline and was lapping in the 1:05 region with only semi slicks, endless pads and aftermarket rotors, giving him he 5th fastest time of the day. These cars have so much potential.

The SVD class had its fair share of nicely modified late model Evos and Wrxs with most competitors lapping in the 1.05 to 1.06 region.

Another very popular car in this type of events are late models hondas with the EG Civic and DC5 Type R Integra taking out the fastest times in their respective classes.

One of the most impressive cars was this VW Beatle powered by a Turboed Porsche motor with some nice aero mods.

This circuit is known for being relatively safe with lots of runoff, which meant the punters where pushing the package in search of that perfect lap.

This type of day really bring a diverse group of different cars and so much more exciting than your average track days, due to most drivers being a lot more experienced and pushing so hard for that one quick lap. All in all a perfect day and I can’t wait for round 4 next weekend.
