Being a member of a factory backed Formula One team certainly has its perks. Take for instance, Jarno Trulli’s recent outing in a Lotus Evora Cup car. Now, drivers whose teams are either automotive manufacturers, or directly connected to a manufacturer, often have the opportunity to test and develop road going cars - think Senna and the NSX, Schumacher and the F430 - but rarely are they able to test a spec-racing version of that car, let alone one that is still in development... [read more]So last week, while Trulli waited to test the new Lotus T127 F1 car, he had the opportunity to drive a Lotus Evora Cup car around the Snetterton Circuit in the UK. He and race engineer, Gianluca Pisanello, spent two days working on suspension and engine calibrations, fine tuning the Evora Cup Car ahead of its racing debut.
Much like the Porsche Cup, Lotus’ Evora Cup is a spec racing series that will utilize their new mid-engined Evora sports car. Powered by a 400hp 4.0-liter V6 developed by Toyota, the Evora Cup car will also be eligible for GT4 class competition and could potentially race against Audi’s R8 LMS, as well as Porsche 911s in the European Le Mans Series.
